It has been a crazy year.
Every year
I have looked at the the data from MPAA’s 2020 THEME Report. Normally, I would take all the data and compare the numbers that say something about 3D and compare them with previous years. However, with a year like 2020: Would anyone be surprised that the overall Theatical market was down for 2020? In the US and Canada, the theatrical market was down 80%. Globally, it was down 65%. 3D was down 92%. No surprises here. It was really not worth running the numbers.
Would it also surprise anyone that the home and mobile market was up 23%? Even though this market has been rising over the past few years, this a considerable increase. For example the increase between 2018 and 2019 was approximately 11.8%. It is also important to note that the subscription video minutes per day rose from 53.7 in 2019 to 71.8 in 2020. It is also important to note that 62% was on televisions and 14% was on mobile devices. Keep this in mind for those hoping to utilize streaming for 3D content.
